2023 Annual Report | Page 16

“ Before my four-year-old son and I started Parent-Child Interactive Therapy ( PCIT ) at Home of the Innocents , there was a lot of contention and yelling in our household . Now , my son will ask to have “ special time ” if I forget , which is life changing . He truly wants to spend that time with me . There are still hard days , but I now feel so much more equipped to help him when he is struggling , and to not totally lose my cool . He is so much happier after graduating from PCIT , and so am I .”
– Former Client , Community Based Services
PCIT is an evidence-based treatment for young children with behavioral problems . PCIT is conducted through “ coaching ” with therapist observation as parents interact with their child . Through a one-way mirror and / or live video feed , therapists utilize a listening device worn by the parent to provide in-the-moment coaching on skills to manage a child ’ s behavior .
