MONUMENTAL HIGHLIGHTS
145TH WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB DOG SHOW
FIRST TIME HOSTING OUTSIDE OF MANHATTAN For the first time , the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was held outside of Manhattan at the Lyndhurst Estate in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . The estate is located just 25 miles north of New York City in Tarrytown , New York , and boasts 67-acres of park-like grounds nestled along the Hudson River . Managed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation , Lyndhurst was a natural fit for the show with its original owner and railroad tycoon Jay Gould being active in the sport of dogs . The Gould family were breeders of note , showcasing prize-winning dogs at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show during the late 1890s and early 1900s . Coincidentally , the family was known to breed Pekingese ( among other breeds ) and , the 2021 Best in Show winner was a Pekingese named Wasabi .
NO SPECTATORS ON SITE The 2021 events was unable to have spectators attend due to the state-mandated capacity restrictions . Therefore , Westminster launched several initiatives to reach more people watching the show from the comfort of their homes and introduced the hashtag # I ’ mWatchingWestminster to invite viewers into the dog conversation .
OFFICIAL PROGRAM FOR ALL DOG LOVERS The club launched the first Digital Version of its Official Program offering it at no cost .
THE DOGIST COLLABORATION While unable to have spectators might have been limited , Westminster teamed up with @ TheDogist to capture content for dog lovers everywhere on both Instagram and the Dogist Podcast .

Westminster has partnered with Heritage Werks to archive and preserve historical items including 145 years of dog show catalogs , Sensation ’ s pedigree , the photo gallery of official win shots , candid moments , and more .
