WESTMINSTER WEEK VENUE
THE WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB DOG SHOW RETURNS TO THE HISTORIC LYNDHURST ESTATE FOR THE CROWNING OF BEST IN SHOW IN ITS 146TH YEAR .
The 146th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is excited to return to Lyndhurst Estate after hosting the 2021 show at the historical site due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
Twenty-five miles north of Manhattan you ’ ll find the Lyndhurst Estate grounds lining the Hudson River in Tarrytown , New York . The historic venue was once home to Gilded Age tycoon , Jay Gould , an active member in the dog community . The Gould family were breeders of note , showcasing prize-winning dogs at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show during the late 1890s and early 1900s . Not only would they go on to build kennels for their dogs on the Lyndhurst property but almost all of Jay ’ s children were involved in the sport of dogs in some capacity . Of Gould ’ s children , two of them bred Pointers and Retrievers , one exhibited Old English Sheepdogs and Irish Terriers at Westminster , two owned Pekingese and one imported rough- and smooth-coated St . Bernards from England to breed at the Lyndhurst Estate . In 1915 , one of Jay ’ s grandsons officiated as a judge of Pointers and Wirehaired Pointing Griffons at Westminster .
