2021 season was one to remeber for the Watertown Red Devils
By Kip Kovar Sports Editor The Watertown Red Devils are the amateur baseball team in Watertown . The Red Devils compete in the Crow River Valley League .
2021 was an exciting season for the Red Devils . After reaching the state tournament for the first time since 2008 last year , Watertown outdid themselves in 2021 . The Red Devils rode their pitching and timely hitting all the way to the Class C state title game where they fell just short in a tough loss to Sobieski Skis .
It was the 12th time the Red Devils have made it to state . They finished in third place in Class A back in 1938 and won the Class championship in 1951 .
Zach Iten was named the team ’ s MVP and Holt Hunziker was named the team ’ s Pitcher of The Year .
Watertown finished the regular season with an overall league record of 14-5 . They then went on to sweep New Germany in the league playoffs , finish third in the Region 7C Tournament and then make their memorable run in the state tournament .
Ryan Hangartner turns a double play for the Red Devils in their matchup with Sobieski in the Class C state title game . Defense and pitching was a big reason Watertown made it as far as they did in 2021 .
