LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
The golf course is in good shape and on the verge of great as we begin to wind down the summer of 2022 . It has been an unusual summer season with considerably less rainfall than we are used to . We have received just enough rainfall to keep things green and growing without making a sloppy mess of the golf course . We were also able to add two new employees that are working out well . Their presence has really jump started the rest of the crew in the final summer push .
The greens have continually improved with our fertilizer program and are extremely full and healthy . This time of year , we are really trying to encourage both top and root growth . These are going to help sustain the amount of play and traffic in the winter months . We are not planning to overseed anything again this year . I felt we were able to maintain a high-quality putting surface without the extra protection from overseeding . This will also allow us to get more speed on the greens without the extra lush growth from the seed . Over seeding is a great look in the winter with nice bright stripes and patterns , but quickly turns into a difficult task in the spring while transitioning back to the existing bermudagrass . Transitions can be very difficult on older greens , and in my opinion it is just not worth the extra stress and crowding out of the bermudagrass just to get some pretty stripes on the green .
The maintenance staff has begun to work through and clean out some of the plant beds on the golf course . We were unable to maintain the plant beds at a level I would have liked throughout the summer due to staffing shortages . With our two new additions to the staff , I am excited to be able to maintain these detail areas the way they should look . We will be lifting trees , cleaning up plant material , and reshaping some of the plant beds to give a much cleaner look to the property . I am energized and ready for the upcoming fall season . I really appreciate the complements and kind words about the condition of the golf course from the membership and my fellow employees . This is just the beginning , and I can ’ t wait for what the future holds for The Club at Eaglebrooke .
