Letter from the EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
It has been an eventful 2022 , especially for the retail industry . As we finally move forward from the pandemic , we saw the most awaited retail recovery this year when pandemic restrictions eased up . The reopening of industries , return of face-to-face events , classes , and offices , has all brought the customers back to shopping in stores once again . Indeed , the vigor of commerce in the Philippines is back again !
As we now approach the last quarter and the merriest time of the year , we in the PRA are happy to see our local retail industry is picking up very well . The return of customers and their “ revenge shopping ” signal that retail is getting back to normal . We hope that we continue to sustain this over in the coming months of 2023 amidst the lingering challenges of inflation , supply chain issues , etc . We believe that retail will be able to withstand the challenges along its way as we are now more than prepared --- having already survived the most challenging time of the pandemic .
In this issue , we are happy to share with you the story of Wilcon Depot ’ s Founder and Chairman Emeritus , Mr . William T . Belo , and how the Philippines ’ leading home improvement and building retailer flourished and thrived for 45 years in the retail industry . It is stories like these --- of resilience and fortitude --- that makes retail such an exciting industry to be part of .
Moreover , read about the latest news stories from our PRA members and the latest developments in the local retail industry . Likewise , read on How can brands enhance their TikTok strategy to win consumer attention and our very successful first Retail Leaders Summit .
We in the PRA are also proud to be spearheading the annual RETAIL EMPLOYEES DAY ( RED ) --- a global movement to honor and appreciate our retail employees , specially our frontliners who --- especially during the pandemic --- continued to serve our customers despite the risks . This is our 5th year and kudos to our members and partners who joined the RED celebration . May you continue to support this program !
As we now head on to another year , may we all continue to work together and turn challenges into opportunities . We ask you , our members , to join our programs and projects so that we will be able to provide you with value for your membership because “ the amount of benefits you can derive from your membership is the association is directly proportional to the amount of involvement you are willing to put into it ”.
May we all have a blessed and merry Christmas and a bountiful and healthy New Year !
