PRA in Action
Letter from the EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
The second quarter of this year poses a lot of optimistic and hopeful viewpoints for our local retail industry , and I for one am heartened to see that retail is recovering --- slowly but surely --- from the pandemic , with people now more confident to travel and go mailing , also with some help and boost from the recent election spending .
As we continue to a new chapter in our country ’ s leadership and our road to recovery , we will continue to watch and monitor for developments in the retail industry , particularly in light of the passage of the amended Retail Trade Liberalization law which lowered the capitalization requirements for foreign retailers to enter the country . While the PRA strongly voiced our apprehension on the impact it will have vis-a-vis our MSMEs , it is our hope that it will bring in more foreign investments into the country as it was originally meant to do .
On another note . we are glad to welcome more retailers and allied partners ( both local and foreign ) joining the PRA just this first half of the year . This goes to show that the PRA is able to reach out to more retailers and showcase what the association can do to help them grow and protect their business through our various initiatives and representations . After 2 years , I am pleased to report that we are doing our 28th National Retail Conference & Expo ( NRCE ) live and in hybrid format this year as we slowly return to the new normal . More exciting news will be announced soon , so please stay tuned to PRA for the latest updates . In this issue , we are delighted to share with you the story of Bayo ’ s Chief Executive Officer Anna Lagon and her story on their shift to sustainability - Bayo ’ s Journey in Creating a Circular Economy in the Fashion Industry . More in this issue are the heartwarming stories from our Retail WonderWoMOMs , the latest news from our PRA members , and the recent developments in the local retail industry . Likewise , read on the feature article by the Retail Prophet Doug Stephens on The Existential Question Facing Every Retailer , and many more ! We in the PRA are always optimistic about better and brighter days ahead . May we all continue to work together and turn challenges into opportunities . God bless us all !
