( Jenny hurries off stage , leaving Ruth and Mia wet and stunned . After a moment of silence , Mia sighs and takes the punch cup off Ruth ’ s head )
MIA ( Pleading tone as she sees how upset Ruth is ): Ruth —
MIA : Ruth !
( Ruth shakes her head and runs off stage )

( Ruth sits on ground , center stage , crying . Mia enters with a flashlight , squinting ) MIA : Ruth , where are you ? ( Mia shines light on Ruth , sighs and sits down beside her .) MIA : Why the janitor ’ s closet ?
( Ruth turns away ) MIA : Look , I ’ m really sorry you have to deal with all this .
RUTH ( shakes head ): If I were normal , none of this would have happened … I guess this is all my fault … I really should take a hint from society , shouldn ’ t I ? ( Scoffs ) My mom was right .
MIA ( sighs ): Don ’ t be sorry for the world ’ s mistakes . And don ’ t think for a second , that any of this is your fault .
RUTH : Well , maybe I don ’ t want live in this world if it doesn ’ t want me in the first place . MIA ( sighs ): I know how you feel , but — RUTH ( wipes away tear , turning to look Mia in eyes ): No , you don ' t know ! You ’ re perfect … MIA ( shakes head ): No one is , trust me .
( Moment of silence ) RUTH : I ’ m sorry I yelled at you …
