The Advanced Heart Failure Program at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth is committed to improving outcomes and quality of life for patients with advanced heart failure . The program offers short-term , destination therapies , and bridge-to-transplant options .
FIRSTS IN TARRANT COUNTY
Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth performed the first left ventricular assist device ( LVAD ) surgery and the first extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation ( ECPR ) procedure in Tarrant County in fiscal year 2022 .
The LVAD program , certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ( CMS ), gives patients with advanced heart failure a new option for an improved quality of life in Fort Worth . Patients may qualify for an LVAD either as a destination therapy or a bridge-to-transplant .
As part of the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation ( ECMO ) program on the Fort Worth campus , the multidisciplinary team of clinical experts performed the first ECPR procedure in early 2022 . This team is available 24 / 7 to provide venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation ( VA-ECMO ) to patients experiencing refractory cardiac arrest .

The team participated in an ECPR simulation at Baylor Scott & White - Fort Worth .
Managed by cardiothoracic surgeons on the hospital ’ s medical staff , providing ECMO requires a specialized team to collaborate . The team includes surgeons on the medical staff , perfusionists , ECMO specialists , specially-trained operating room staff , critical care nurses and respiratory therapists . The ECMO program on the Fort Worth campus obtained the ELSO Award - Silver for Excellence in Life Support .
