Cardiac rehabilitation staff also discuss any injuries or limitations participants have and explain their individualized program goals . Data from the initial MA provides the team with the pertinent information necessary to prescribe exercises specifically tailored to each patient ’ s needs . Each month , program graduates ’ data is analyzed , posted and discussed by the team . The outcomes provide important data as to where graduates excelled and where their exercise prescriptions may have needed improvement .
Since its inception , the MA database has completed information on more than 400 patients . The MA has become a standard of care for the center ’ s cardiac rehabilitation program .
RETURN TO WORK LAB : LIVE YOUR ACTION POTENTIAL ®
Unique to the program , Return to Work Lab : Live Your Action Potential was initiated several years ago to respond to individual patient needs in order to help the patient return to their work life whether that be a fireman , pilot , mechanic , or new mom who experienced a postpartum cardiac event . Rooted solidly in evidence-based protocols from research performed in Dallas , the team customizes rehabilitation for all types and ages of patients . Specifically , the team initiates a care plan that uses the actual equipment and tools the patient would need to handle in their daily work as equipment in the rehabilitation process . The plans also involve nutritional counseling , social support and lifestyle education . Patients have traveled from all over the world for this specialized care . Other patients from outside of the Dallas area have received virtual assistance as they recover and strengthen their cardiac condition closer to their hometown medical team .
KEEP YOUR MOVE IN THE TUBE © EXPANDS NATIONALLY AND GLOBALLY
The program developed on the Dallas campus known as Keep Your Move in the Tube ® revolutionized postsurgical recovery . The program continues to gain popularity among the rehab community across the country and around the world . Now the American College of Sports Medicine standard of care , Keep Your Move in the Tube ’ s ( KYMITT ) value for cardiac rehab patients has been recognized by leading healthcare facilities in the US and in rehab programs in Japan , Germany , Australia , Switzerland , and China . The team collaborated with the State Department of Health of Queensland Australia to bring KYMITT to all hospitals in the state .
LIVING ORGAN DONOR RECOVERY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM
In the past fiscal year , the cardiac rehabilitation program served in a research associate role for this study . Johanna Bayer , MD , surgical director of transplantation at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center - Fort Worth , served as director of the study . While the study evaluated many different factors of liver or kidney donor recovery including pain management , nutritional support , physical recovery , and psychological support , the cardiac rehabilitation program on the Baylor Dallas campus performed physiological assessments of donors . This assessment focused on the donor ’ s core muscle strength and cardiorespiratory fitness before and after performing core strengthening exercise programs . The donors were also educated about several core strengthening exercises which they were asked to perform from the time of initial evaluation until preop evaluation before surgery . A study goal was “ to determine the effect of a pre-operative strength training program on the time to return to work and post-operative fatigue .” The study is ongoing .
LEAP FOR LIFE ®
In its ongoing effort to help prevent heart disease through education , Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital - Dallas celebrated the 15th anniversary of its nationally recognized program Leap for Life . Comprised of sessions for cardiovascular patients , caregivers and open to the community , the curriculum focuses on heart healthy topics , risk factor modification and personal goal setting . In fiscal year 2022 , classes were offered virtually .
