STEM Goes Red
In fiscal year 2022 , as a part of the STEM Goes Red project of the American Heart Association , students from all over the Metroplex joined various organizations for presentations on science , technology , engineering , and math ( STEM ) careers . STEM Goes Red gives students access to local STEM employers and experts . Program attendees gain first-hand experience , knowledge and a platform to ask questions of professionals in a STEM career .
Dallas County students participated in a virtual presentation where students were able to hear from hospital staff about career opportunities and have an interactive discussion with experts in their respective specialties . The virtual program began in fiscal year 2021 as an answer to the COVID-19 pandemic . This option allowed for a larger number of students to participate in the program without ever having to leave the classroom .
In fiscal year 2022 , 100 Tarrant County students visited Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas . The students participated in hands-on learning , rotating between six hospital departments including electrophysiology lab , catheterization lab , pharmacy , operating room , non-invasive imaging , and pathology where students were able to hold a human heart . This is another program where the hospital team is strongly engaged in developing interest in young minds for healthcare careers .
