STRENGTHENING HEARTS AND LUNGS , ONE PATIENT AT A TIME
The Carter Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center , located in the Carter Fitness Center on the campus of Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth , has helped thousands of North Texans recover from their cardiac and pulmonary health episodes with individualized care planning and targeted therapy . The center is an extension of Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Fort Worth .
In this past fiscal year , the rehabilitation team saw a 109 % increase in the number of pulmonary rehabilitation patients . The program also noted an increase in participants with COVID-19-related cardiac and pulmonary issues . Overseen by the program ’ s medical director , Steve Simpson , MD , the center ’ s experienced multidisciplinary team of health professionals ― physicians , exercise physiologists , nurses , respiratory therapists , and registered dietitians ― assessed each patient ’ s health status and created personalized care plans designed to return the patient to his or her highest level of functioning .
Carter Center rehab programs continue AACVPR certification
The Carter Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center continued its three-year certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation . The certification recognizes the program ’ s commitment to improving the quality of life of cardiac and pulmonary patients by enhancing standards of care . The certification is the only peer-reviewed accreditation process designed to evaluate individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other professional societies . AACVPR-certified programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation .

The evaluation was repeated when the patient completed the program . The strength measurement study demonstrated increases in patient strength in the following areas :
• Increase in leg press by 18 %
• Increase in chest press by 30 %
• Increase in sit – stand by 25 %
• Increase in modified pushup by 50 %
• Increase plank by 30 %
