January 15 , 2022 Dear Sorors :
I am pleased to convene this national commemoration of our 114th Founders ’ Day on the campus of Howard University where it all began . As we celebrate the perpetuation of this sisterhood , we also solemnly remember and pay homage to our guiding light , Founder Ethel Hedgemon Lyle , and the eight other young ladies whose vision paved the way for us to enjoy the fruits of their labor through our beloved sorority . We also honor those seven sorors who immediately joined with our founding sisters and laid the foundation for our sisterhood . We celebrate the determination of Soror Nellie Quander who preserved the tenets that we continue to hold dear . Our founders and incorporators represent the enduring legacy of excellence we celebrate today .
As we reflect upon the sisterhood that our founders entrusted to us , we take pride in the ways in which we have honored the vision of our founders and their charge to be of service to all mankind . For more than a century , we have built upon their legacy of sisterhood and service in meaningful and tangible ways . Our active membership is at its highest level in the history of Alpha Kappa Alpha , and we have successfully re-imagined the ways in which we deliver much needed service and advocacy in the midst of a upending pandemic . Although there was no blueprint , we forged a path that continued the excellence that is Alpha Kappa Alpha .
Although the circumstances of this global pandemic continue to limit our ability to celebrate together in the way in which we have grown accustomed , I am thankful that the Lord continues to make a way for us to safely observe this annual seminal moment in the life of our sisterhood . Even as most of you join this special celebration from the comfort of your homes , I hope you will still be able to feel the love , respect and deep admiration we collectively have for our Founders and that I personally have for each of you .
I am appreciative to Soror Amirah S . Salaam , National Founders Day Committee Chair , and the members of the National Founders ’ Day Committee for their hard work and commitment to safely and successfully executing this weekend celebration . I also express my gratitude to each program participant , international committee member and local volunteer whose assistance was vital to ensure the success of these festivities .
As we continue to move forward in this new year , let us be mindful of all the ways in which the world needs Alpha Kappa Alpha to keep serving and to keep shining . We thank God for Alpha Kappa Alpha and the inspiration He has given us to serve others . We know there is so much more work to do , and I am confident that we will meet this moment with excellence as the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha always do . I thank God for entrusting me with this awesome leadership privilege to serve Alpha Kappa Alpha .
Sorors , thank you for honoring the legacy of our founders . May God continue to bless you , and may He continue to richly bless Alpha Kappa Alpha .
Happy Founders ’ Day ,
Dr . Glenda Glover , Supreme Basileus
