About this report

This report is dedicated to the many community-based , frontline , and essential workers who perform work that we all depend on for our daily lives and who keep the Bay Area safe .
The annual Language Access Compliance Summary Report evaluates Citywide compliance and progress with the San Francisco Language Access Ordinance ( LAO ). As required by the LAO , the annual report is submitted to the Board of Supervisors and the Immigrant Rights Commission by February 1 of each year . This year ’ s report covers Fiscal Year 2020-2021 ( July 1 , 2020 - June 30 , 2021 ).
In addition to overseeing compliance , the Office of Civic Engagement & Immigrant Affairs ( OCEIA ) assists City departments to better meet the language needs of San Francisco ’ s Limited English Proficient ( LEP ) residents and workers . These services include trainings , tools , resources , and technical assistance to increase capacity and provisioning for language access . On a limited basis , OCEIA ’ s Language Access Unit also provides language assistance during public meetings to support the San Francisco Board of Supervisors , Redistricting Task Force , and Immigrant Rights Commission .
