LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
The summer heat and rain has picked up this month . The turf is growing very fast and some weeks its all we can do to get the course mowed out completely . We have gotten on a consistent schedule of spraying growth regulators on tees and fairways to help with the number of clippings , and it has really helped us staying clean in these areas . The growth regulators have also allowed us to tighten up some of the weaker areas on fairways and get some decent turf coverage in these problem spots .
The turf weeds have been growing as well . We are on an aggressive spray program to eliminate the grassy weed problems throughout the course . The toughest weeds we face are goosegrass , tropical signal grass , and sedges . The preemergent we have been using is specialized to target these grassy weeds , and I am very encouraged by the results so far . I have recognized several areas on the course where the weed populations are significantly less than last year at this time . This is a process that will take a few years to build up in the soil and allow for a much cleaner golf course .
It is still a work in progress , but the maintenance staff will continue to show up everyday and give 100 %. I am excited about what we have accomplished so far , and will continue to accomplish over the next several years .
