FORDHAM PREP 2022 ANNUAL GIVING REPORT
FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
Dear Benefactors ,
L ooking back on the past academic year , it is gratifying to see the impact that your generosity has had on Fordham Prep . In conveying the thanks of our students , faculty and staff , I ’ d like to share with you some of the investments that you ’ ve enabled to enhance our students ’ experience at Fordham Prep … and to continue to lead in the competition to attract the best and brightest young men to the Prep .
In the summer issue of Ramview , I shared that when I transitioned in June to the role of Interim President , I felt like a runner in a relay race receiving the baton in the lead and charged with the task of extending the lead . Your support put Fordham Prep in the lead . And your contributions this past year to our annual giving fund and enthusiastic participation in programs like the Igniting Our Mission Campaign , the George Jackson and Unknown Mentor Scholarships , and the Turkey Bowl Challenge uniquely positioned us to extend that lead during the upcoming 2022 – 23 school year and beyond .
Your support is funding an investment strategy designed to advance our academic programs through a multi-year curriculum review process and to grow formation opportunities outside the classroom through athletics , visual and performing arts , campus ministry and Christian service . While reinforcing those fundamentals of a Jesuit education , our strategy is also to invest in innovative programs to prepare our students to live — and thrive — in an ever-changing world .
The new FitzSimons Civics Education Initiative provides a platform to inspire and equip students to be informed and engaged citizens . Our iSTEAM program enables students to apply groundbreaking technologies to delve into business solutions and social topics — from 3-D printing to cybersecurity to eSports . We ’ ve expanded our Global Education Program to provide exchanges and cultural immersion experiences on five continents that prepare our students to be global citizens who continuously seek to deepen their awareness of their place and responsibility in an increasingly interconnected world . Our benefactors ’ continued support will indeed help us to “ extend the lead ” with these critical programs .
Those of us who work at the Prep see examples each day of the direct impact your support has on individual students . I ’ ll share with you the story of our graduation speaker for the 2022 commencement ceremony — Arison Cruz ’ 22 . Prior to coming to the Prep , Arison was part of the REACH program , a program founded by Regis High School that Fordham Prep has partnered with for the past seven years . REACH prepares middle school students from families of limited financial means to earn scholarships to New York City Catholic schools . During Arison ’ s four years at the Prep , he excelled in the classroom , as a campus ministry leader and on the athletic fields as a member of this year ’ s Catholic State championship track and field team . Arison also grew as a global citizen through participation this past year in our global education trip to the Galapagos Islands . Without your generous support these Fordham Prep experiences might not have been possible for Arison and his family .
You have given us the resources to “ extend the lead ” and ensure that students like Arison have access to a Fordham Prep education that forms young men to be leaders in faith , scholarship and service . On behalf of our students , families , faculty and staff , thank you ! We will remember you in our prayers throughout the year at the Prep , especially when we gather to celebrate the Eucharist at our liturgies .
Brian Carney Interim President , A . M . D . G .
