John McDonald has spent his life finding ways to protect others , first
as a police of- ficer and most recently as the head of security for the CO school district home of the
Columbine
High
School shooting . John recently took on a new role as Chief Operating Officer ( COO ) for the newly formed
Nation-
al Council of School Safety Leader- ship , a collaboration with the Mis- souri School Board Assoc and Safe and Sound Schools , the latter an or- ganization created by parents of chil- dren killed at the Sandy Hook Ele- mentary School massacre .
Along the way , John served seven years as a communications special- ist in the Army National Guard , ex- plained former head of the FBI ’ s Ac- tive Shooter Program , Katherine Schweit , who nominated John for the ' ASTORS ' Award recognition .
