New York Police Department ( NYPD ) Chief of Department Kenneth Corey served the City of New York for 34 years , beginning his career as a cadet in 1988 , and retired as the New York City Police Chief of Depart- ment , the NYPD ’ s highest ranking uniformed officer .
Under Chief Corey ' s leadership , shooting incidents , and homi- cides decreased by more than 50 %, while major crimes de- creased by 11 %.
