LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
The maintenance staff is working very hard to make the golf course as good as possible . This time of year , it is a big challenge between heavy rains and extremely high temperatures . The bermudagrass is growing extremely fast and some weeks it is all we can do to get everything mowed . The crew is responding well to the challenge and are offering good playing surfaces .
We are continuing to spray growth regulators weekly on greens , and monthly on tees and fairways . This is allowing us to limit the number of clippings after mowing for a much cleaner finished product . We are also applying a monthly preemergent application throughout the summer to get ahead of the grassy weeds that grow in the warmer months . We have focused our efforts on tees , fairways , collars , and first cut of rough . Once we can get these areas manageable , we will expand to the outer rough areas . This is a process that will take a while to build up in the soil , and I have seen a difference since last year at this time . I am very encouraged by the results so far .
Lastly , I would like to discuss water management not only for the golf course , but for homeowners as well . The golf course irrigation system is monitored daily for watering schedules and amounts that are applied for every cycle . We take this responsibility very seriously as it pertains to waste and efficiency of the system . We evaluate weather , soil types , coverage , and frequency on a constant basis , and can tell you how much water is applied every day down to the gallon . I would like to challenge homeowners to do the same . A lot of areas around the edges of the golf course get extremely wet due to runoff and drainage from homes . This includes irrigation systems running daily even when we are getting rains daily . When is the last time that you checked your irrigation schedules ? How long do your zones run for ? Are your sprinklers broken ? We all have a responsibility for water conservation , and I would be happy to help anyone that does not know the answers to these questions . As always thanks to my staff and our members !
