On Saturday , April 2nd , Lexington G & CC hosted a VSGA One-Day Junior Tournament . Youth ages 6-18 came from all over the State . On a sunny , and slightly cool day , in a field of 40
Brandon Sipe players , Brandon Sipe , a 13 year old from Yorktown , shot even par ( from the blue tees ) to win by one shot . Kent Holubar , VSGA Manager , Championships and Junior Golf , states “ We thank the membership for the time and access to allow the juniors a chance to play and compete at Lexington Golf and Country Club ”. Our superintendent , Jake , had the course in great shape and we heard many wonderful comments from the many parents and participants .
Please check the website for upcoming golf events . On Saturday , April 30 we have scheduled a One-Day Member Guest open to men and women . These are popular events that allow us to showcase our golf course to local friends of members and compete in a less formal 18 hole tourney .
The Men ’ s Association Thursday Evening 9 hole group begins this month and continues thru August . These weekly events begin at 5:30 . They are 2 person events , so if you don ’ t have a partner , let the pro-shop know and we can help to pair you up .
Handicap Change : Folks , including myself , are getting more comfortable with our new handicap provider , HANDICOMP . We will be using this service for our in-house tournaments . If you are not already switched over , please let us know so that we can add you to the roster .
Join me in welcoming two new part timers to the golf shop staff . Tom Trumps and Glenn Keating will be learning the inside and outside job duties . Tom was the commandant at VMI and retired a few years ago to attend to his farm and other hobbies . Glenn is also retired and has many years of golf work experience . Please welcome both and DO give them a HARD time as both can handle a bit of teasing and trash talk .
Our Spring junior clinics have started up . We meet on Tuesdays at 5:30 for the younger crowd ( ages 6-10 ); and Fridays at 4:20 for the older group . Call or email me for further questions . Scott has joined the Cleveland / Srixon staff this winter so this line will also be more prevalent in the shop . Great wedges , many ball options , Srixon irons and woods .
