Saving Children : Growing Together for a Better Future

Early in 2022 , residents of Amelia ’ s House , a cottage for teenage girls in our Residential
Treatment and Emergency Shelter Services , decided to produce a talent show .
These young women combined singing , acting , and art to share how the trauma in their lives shaped who they have become , and created a moving performance .
“ We wanted to share our journey – what roads we ’ ve been on , different stuff we have been through , and how those things will make us better people as we grow up ,” explained Jada *. “ We wanted to show how we use our experiences towards positivity in our lives .”
Every youth in Residential Treatment and Emergency Shelter Services receives at minimum two counseling sessions per week , and many of these sessions include learning healthy emotional management skills . “ Some of our peers have a lot of sadness , pain , and hurt inside and they take it out on others . We showed how we can be bigger from those emotions ,” Jada shared .
