FORENSIC MEDICAL EXAM PAYMENT
Under a provision of the VAWA reauthorization act of 2005 ( u . S . C . A . 3796gg ), states must ensure that victims of sexual assault have access to a forensic medical exam , free of charge or with full reimbursement , even if the victim chooses not to report the crime to the police or otherwise participate with law enforcement authorities or the criminal justice system .
To be eligible for vawa S . T . O . P . Formula grant funds , all states must be able to certify that they are in compliance with the statutory eligibility requirements within vawa on or before january 5 , 2009 . • How safe will your commute be to campus ?
• Does the facility have security on site ?
• Is an intercom system used or are peep holes installed in doors ?
• Are there emergency phones ?
• Are adjacent properties maintained ?
• How secure are the locks / doors ?
• How often are the locks changed ?
• Are there dead bolt locks on the exterior doors ?
• Is parking adequate and safe ?
• Are there secluded or dark areas near the buildings ?
• Is there an adequate fire safety detection and evacuation system in place ?
When living in off campus housing :
• Lock doors and windows securely
• Don ’ t post your location on social networking sites
• Make sure the house / apartment appears as if someone is home , especially if you are gone for extended periods of time . Use timed lights and leave your window coverings in normal positions
• Car pool with roommates to leave a vehicle at the residence
• Keep yard mowed and keep exterior clean and neat
• Talk with your neighbors , especially prior to having friends over – discuss appropriate noise volumes and times , also discuss parking of guests
