SAFETY TIPS
RESIDENCE HALL SAFETY
• Make a habit of keeping your doors locked . Lock your room door when sleeping , when leaving a roommate asleep inside , and when leaving your room .
• Never prop open doors to residence halls .
• Report to the residence hall staff all doors , locks , and windows that are in need of repair .
• Be suspicious of unknown persons loitering or checking doors in your hall and call Public Safety to report them .
• Backpacks , purses , book bags , etc ., should never be left unattended .
• Do not leave valuables in open view . Take valuables home during breaks .
• Door to door sales are not permitted in the residence halls at Siena Heights University . Do not open your door and contact Public Safety or an Resident Assistant to report solicitation activities immediately .

COMPUTER AND IDENTITY INFORMATION SAFETY
• Use a different robust password for all online accounts . Do not use your SHU ID # for anything else . Do not share your password with others or use another person ’ s password .
• Never leave your laptop unattended . Lock your screen or log out before you walk away from a computer .
• Do not believe everything you read in e-mail . Never respond to an e-mail request for private information ; no legitimate company will request information in this way .
• Keep records of your credit cards and bank numbers in a safe place . Shred confidential documents and CDs containing private personal information with a cross-cut shredder when no longer needed .
• If you receive a threatening e-mail , or post on a social networking site , contact the Department of Public Safety immediately , or post on a social networking site . stopthinkconnect . org
