What an unforgettable year 2021 turned out to be ! It started off in the typical style of 2020 as we continued to navigate the pandemic with digital meetings , webinars , and events . Then , as vaccines became prevalent , we began to work our way into a new normal . We found ourselves connecting in person again with small outdoor gatherings . By the end of the year we were finally able to gather in person both outdoors and indoors with some concessions of course , but none-the-less , we were together . Adapting to change is never easy , no matter what it is , but our Conservancy staff , volunteers , and supporters have never ceased to amaze us in how well they are at adapting .
Speaking of adapting , did you notice the photo ( s ) on the cover of this annual report ? We were so excited to welcome two years of Painted Bunting Level Donors to celebrate with us this year . Due to COVID concerns we had to cancel our celebration in 2021 but were pleased to hold it early in 2022 for both our 2020 and 2021 Painted Bunting Level Donors . Did you know that becoming a Painted Bunting Level Donor only requires an annual commitment of $ 1,000 or more ? That ’ s just under $ 20 a week , less than a meal out , to support the conservation of Kiawah Island ’ s lush habitats and endeared wildlife species . In 2021 alone , we had 276 donors give at the Painted Bunting Level or above . Thank you for your continued support . You are the lifeblood of our organization !
In the past , I have asked you to consider leaving your Legacy for Kiawah so that future generations can form lasting memories of their own , and many of you have done just that . You have donated land , commemorated loved ones in the Naturally Kiawah Demonstration Garden , added the Kiawah Conservancy to your estate plans , and volunteered with us . Thank you !
Growing our endowment fund continues to be a major initiative for the Advancement & Funding Committee . We are also prioritizing the pursuit of alternative sources of sustainable income . A wonderful example of this is our four-year , $ 100,000 partnership with Palmetto Exterminators , one of the first pest control companies to commit as a Bobcat Guardian and help us in our response to the bobcat crisis .
In the words of Halford E . Luccock , “ No one can whistle a symphony . It takes a whole orchestra to play it .” You are our orchestra and the symphony we create together is magical indeed . We appreciate your continued support !
