BRONZE LIMOUSIN BULL BY ARTIST MACK PETTY

DONATED BY : FRED SPITZ JR

This bronze Limousin bull was a project NALF Executive VP , Bob Vantrease , in the late 1970s as a fundraiser for NALF . At the suggestion of founder member Burwell Bates , Vantrease made contact with a friend of Burwells , western artist and sculpter Mack Petty of Aubrey , Texas . Mack Petty was than commisioned to produce this bull which actually ended up being a combination three bulls . Twenty-five of these bronzes where produced and sold to breeders for $ 2,500 each . This bronze is 6 / 25 that was purchased by early day Limousin breeder , Fred Spitz of Norman , Oklahoma .
The Fred Spitz story could take pages , but at this writing let us say he had bred and exhibited the only female to win the breeds Triple Crown Spitz Special Effort and Spitz Navajo the Triple Crown winning bull that same year . Both were developed under the watchful eye of herdsman / manager , Arnie Hansen and Fred Spitz Jr ., who donated this bronze in memory of his father who passed away June 1 , 2019 . My last in person visit with Fred was the summer of 2013 in the parking lot of Lawton Meat of Lawton , Oklahoma . Fred , JR ( Fred Jr ) and I were there to finish the transaction of a Limousin locker beef and to visit . I only wish I had been equipped to tape Fred ’ s testimonial visit as he expounded on the value what the NALJA program had meant to his family as he and Janelle raised their four sons - with JR being the youngest .
