Trailblazers

Report

The cold snap and snow we had before Christmas arrived right before the official start of winter . It helped put a lot of folks in the holiday mood . I know it did that to me . Although it did not stick around for Christmas ( except for a few piles here and there ), it was a great beginning to the winter season .
With cold temperatures ( and perhaps snow ), it is easy to hibernate inside to try to avoid winter ; but hey , we can ’ t change the weather , so we might as well embrace and enjoy it ! The winter months can be a fun time to enjoy the trails in the woods and those along our lakes , regardless of the presence of snow . As long as one “ layers up ” and has correct winter footwear , gloves , a hat , and perhaps hiking poles / sticks , a hike in winter offers an entirely different perspective of our beautiful community and can be quite rewarding .
The trails in the woods ( such as the Aspen Trail , the Balmoral Trail , and the Nightingale Trail ) can offer unique views of wildlife and nature and refreshing solitude . These trails might be considered the more “ remote trails ” in the community , and the level of trail difficulty is generally greater than some other trails . Other trails ( such as the Lake Trail and the Pinehurst Lake Trail ) give you a “ shoreline ” experience . Still , other trails ( Indian Caves Trail , Lake Anita Louise Trail . Lake Merle Trail , West Winds Trail , and Woodridge Trail ) allow a mixture of viewing experiences .
Consult the LLA Trail Map Pocket Guide for the location and description of all the trails in our community trail system . It can be downloaded from the Lake Linganore website — go to lakelinganore . org / amenities , and under the “ Trails ” heading , click on the map download . For any trail questions , you can reach the Trailblazers Committee via email at LLATrailblazers @ gmail . com .
Enjoy your time on the LLA trails in the winter !
