According to Carolyn , the campground was predominantly , if not exclusively , enjoyed during the summer months with many “ regulars ”.
Friends who grew up in Montgomery County have regaled me with nostalgic stories of their teenage years driving to Lake Linganore with friends on motorcycles or in their family car to enjoy the new lake and camp overnight before heading back home . They tell me that the security gate was not strict , simply requiring a confident lot number citation for the guard to open the gate and wave them on through .
Unfortunately , the Linganore Campground could not be sustained and eventually fell into disrepair . However , vestiges of the campground remain today still within a tract of undisturbed woods on the private property owned by Oakdale Investments ( developer within Lake Linganore ). The bath house with its separate toilets and running water for men and women is no longer standing but the concrete walls and floors remain in the woods where the structure once stood ( Figure 2 ). A concrete viaduct / “ esplanade ” used to convey the sanitary sewer pipeline over a creek ( and over a driveway to the camping parking ) area remains today ( Figure 3 ). The old gravel road to the camp sites may be apparent to some especially perceptive observers of the trees and forest floor .

These campground remnants , the Brosius design renderings ( Figure 4 ), and the preserved dense stands of hardwoods and pines overlooking Linganore Creek and two islands ( also owned by Oakdale Investments ) are reminders of what was once part Lake Linganore ’ s creator ’ s vision . This does not appear to have been lost on the 2013 Lake Linganore-Oakdale Investment committee tasked with developing a master recreational plan for the community . Clearly , the old Lake Linganore Campground has not been entirely forgotten as the 2013 Draft Recreation Master Plan included the campground land ( Figure 5 )!
The LLA Board of Directors , Staff , Committees , and Members provided input during the process to Land Design to develop the Lake Linganore Master Recreation Plan . Now ,

Oakdale Investments continues to work with the Lake Linganore Association ( LLA ), especially the LLA Strategic Planning Committee ( who continue to gather and provide Member input ), regarding the fruition of the draft Master Plan created in 2013 . Oakdale Investments provides an overview and updates at the Annual Meeting each spring . Members can review previous Annual Meeting minutes and the Strategic Plan Committee ’ s amenity survey results in the Member Portal ( lakelinganore . org / myaccount ).
