Bringing Back Community Engagement Fun
While planning for summer 2021 , Mahtomedi Community Education wanted to create community engagement events to entice community members to get outside and reconnect after this long year of social distancing , minimal activities , quarantine , and COVID . Our brainstorming led us to the inception of Food Truck Fridays . These events would bring people together around food and fun , while community education partnered with the food truck vendors to donate a percentage of their profits towards our scholarship fund to help with participant fees for summer programs .
Once a month , our community responded by joining us at the District Education Center for Food Truck Fridays . We wanted to offer a variety of food choices by partnering with various food trucks . We began in April with one food truck and quickly learned one food truck wasn ’ t enough . We continued through the summer with at least two trucks at each event . We supported local food vendors , provided some outdoor games and activities , and highlighted the musical talents around the district with free live music . We were entertained by Michael Schumacher , Community Education guitar teacher , energized by the High School Pep Band , and wowed by some gentlemen in the High School Jazz Ensemble .
Thank you to all the food trucks who donated to our Community Education Scholarship Fund . A big thank you to our amazing community that came out to support us while spending time with friends and neighbors . We raised over $ 1,000 to give back to our participants .
