A Letter from the President & CEO
“ Life is 10 % what happens to you and 90 % how you react to it .” – Charles R . Swindoll
This past year will almost surely be remembered as one of the most challenging in recent history . The pandemic forced us all to pivot and establish our new normals , while balancing the need for safety . Throughout 2020 , BBB continued building trust in trying times .
In March 2020 , BBB moved quickly to meet 2020 challenges and focused on our service to the communities we serve and the safety of our employees . Despite the challenges , BBB remained a trusted source of stability , guidance and leadership for businesses and consumers across Texas . BBB ’ s iconic brand met increasing demands to provide information to consumers , guidance to businesses , and development of new partnerships that strengthened our communities amid a time of uncertainty .
In 2020 , BBB partnered with local city economic development departments , business associations and government agencies to help many businesses and consumers find their way in this new environment . BBB offered webinars to small businesses to help them transition to a work-from-home environment . Those topics included IT , HR and data security issues ; topics necessary for small businesses to understand to protect themselves .
BBB partnered with Indeed to provide local businesses with a sponsored job credit to find new talent as businesses began reopening . Hiring the right candidates helps build the foundation of a healthy business and , in the wake of the pandemic , we wanted to make that easier than ever .
When our communities faced challenges , they recognized the value of having BBB in the marketplace and utilized our services . As a result , traffic to BBB . org increased nearly 25 % to 10.4 million visits . These numbers prove that BBB and Accredited Businesses matter even more when times are turbulent , and people especially care about the trustworthiness of the businesses they choose .
In 2021 , expect new tools and resources from BBB to advance your business goals . We stand beside you , and we want our Accredited Businesses to know we are here for them . Thank you for continuing to exemplify BBB ' s values and your commitment to advancing marketplace trust . I can ’ t wait to see what strides we can make in 2021 .
Stay healthy , stay safe and stay strong !
Thank you ,
Carrie A . Hurt , President & CEO BBB serving the Heart of Texas with offices in Austin , Bryan , Corpus Christi , Fort Worth , Midland , San Antonio and Waco
