DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY
Siena Heights University complies with all federal , state , and local laws , including those , which regulate the possession , use and sale of alcoholic beverages and controlled substances . As an educational institution , Siena Heights University is committed to the development of a health environment , which stimulates intellectual and personal development in students as well as assuring their physical well-being . Inappropriate behavior concerning alcohol , to include underage drinking , is prohibited for students and employees . Complete details are available in the Student Code of Conduct and the Employee Handbook . The possession , consumption , sharing or sale of any controlled substance is prohibited . The student handbook and employee handbook details offenses and sanctions , including but not limited to online alcohol and drug abuse programs , probation , time of without pay , suspensions , employment termination and student expulsion .
The Adrian Police Department may be called in for any suspicion of illegal drug use or possession on the Adrian Campus . The Siena Heights University Wellness Team offers referrals and assistance to students during mental health emergencies . The Wellness Team is located in the Health Services and Counseling Centers on the Adrian campus in Ledwidge Hall . Siena Heights University Human Resources offers referrals and assistance to employees in the form of an Employee Assistance Program . Educational programs , open for employees and students , addressing substance abuse and related issues are sponsored throughout the academic year on the Adrian Campus .
The Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 required the adoption of an alcohol and drug policy and program by October 1 , 1990 . Under this policy / program , the unlawful possession , use , or distribution of alcohol or illicit drugs by employees or students on any Siena Heights University Campus or as a part of any University activity on or off University leased or owned property , may lead to sanctions / discipline with in the University ; the severity of which shall increase as the seriousness of the violations increase .
