FIRE SAFETY REPORT CONT . Residence Hall , Campus Apt . and St Catherine Fire Safety Residence Halls :
Siena Heights University adheres to the applicable Life Safety Codes and performs fire evacuation drills for the residence halls , according to the code requirements . The Public Safety team and the Residence Life staff work together to provide the residents with fire safety educational programs throughout the academic year . Fire safety equipment is routinely monitored and checked by a contracted fire safety vendors and by Public Safety .

Procedures for Siena Heights University Community Members in Case of Fire :
• Sign up for SHU Alerts , in most cases this will be the first notification sent
• Always exit when a fire alarm is activated
• Learn the location of fire exits and alarm boxes near you and know the emergency number for assistance ( 517.264.7800 or 911 )
• Sound the fire alarm if you see smoke or detect a burning odor
• Have a prepared escape plan and know at least two escape routes
• Remember to remain calm
• Use exit stairs . Never use elevators
• Assist disabled , if unable to leave in a safe location and notify emergency response of their location
• Feel a door with the back of your hand before opening it by the handle
• Close doors behind you as you escape . In most cases , this will prevent smoke damage and fire from entering the room you are exiting
• Do not re-enter a fire damaged building until it has been declared safe . If you become trapped , seal off cracks around doors and vents with cloth or rugs ( soaked in water if possible ). Shut off fans and air conditioners . Signal for help from a window . Contact Public Safety at 517.264.7800 or 911 . Remain calm . Rescue may only be moments away .
