• Walk on designated walkways that are well lit and well traveled .
• Take advantage of the Public Safety escort service .
• Walk confidently and assertively .
• Be alert and aware of your surroundings .
• Purses should be carried close to the body and secured under one arm .
• Backpacks should be carried over one shoulder and secured with one arm .
• Do not run or jog alone , especially at night .
• Do not ever hitchhike . Carry a charged cell phone .
• Avoid shortcuts through parks , vacant lots , and other deserted places .
• If you are followed by a vehicle , turn around and go the opposite way .
