MJFF LAUNCHES PARKINSON ’ S PROGRESSION MARKERS INITIATIVE ( PPMI ), LANDMARK CLINICAL STUDY
Building on $ 28 million in biomarker investments from 2000 to 2010 , MJFF launches the Parkinson ’ s Progression Markers Initiative ( PPMI ), the first-ever large-scale clinical study exclusively focused on identifying and validating Parkinson ’ s disease biomarkers . The study proves transformative to the field , expanding to include genetics and at-risk cohorts and garnering two dozen industry partners in a rare example of a major public-private partnership led by a nonprofit organization rather than a government entity or pharmaceutical firm .
