FETAL CELL TRANSPLANTS SHOW EVIDENCE OF PARKINSON ’ S-LIKE DEGENERATION
Through postmortem analysis of the brains of PD patients who had grafting of healthy fetal tissue in the late 1980s and early 1990s , it is revealed that the grafts have unexpectedly developed Parkinson ’ s-like pathology , adding weight to the “ prion ” theory that misfolded protein aggregates move from nerve cell to nerve cell , spreading disease through the brain .

MJFF ESTABLISHES PATIENT COUNCIL
Recognizing the need to establish a formal “ seat at the table ” in drug development for PD patients and the broader Parkinson ’ s community , MJFF launches the Patient Council . The Council advises the Foundation on strategies to best convey patient priorities to the research community and its funders ; content and emphasis for patient education and outreach relevant to MJFF ’ s mission to find a cure ; patient roles in developing novel ways to conduct research ; and mechanisms for impact assessment .
