Building upon decades of excellence in cardiovascular
care, the UAB Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) was
established in 2019 to enhance cardiovascular service
delivery across UAB Medicine. Among the largest
cardiovascular centers in the country, the CVI aligns
the clinical specialties of cardiology, cardiac surgery,
vascular surgery, and cardiothoracic anesthesia to
deliver optimal care to patients with cardiovascular-
related conditions. We are at the forefront of
advances in the treatment of cardiovascular disease,
and our program is consistently listed among the top
cardiovascular centers in the nation.

The UAB Cardiovascular Institute has been listed among U.S. News & World Report’s (USNWR) “Top 50 Centers
for Cardiology and Heart Surgery” for the last several years. In its 2019 rankings, USNWR also recognized UAB
Medicine for our performance in several key clinical areas, including heart bypass surgery, heart valve surgery,
heart failure, lung cancer surgery, and abdominal aortic surgery.
