UAB Medicine has a long history of caring for patients with adult congenital heart disease (ACHD). The UAB
ACHD program is the only one of its kind in Alabama, collaborating with the UAB Division of Pediatric Cardiology
to help ensure a smooth transition for patients aging out of pediatric care. It is estimated that 60% of patients
with congenital heart disease are adults, therefore stressing the importance of maintaining care with a dedicated
ACHD physician.
The ACHD program draws upon resources and faculty from the divisions of Cardiothoracic Adult and Pediatric
Surgery, Cardiovascular Disease, Pediatric Cardiology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and the Department of Radiology,
as well as services provided by the electrophysiology and cardiac catheterization laboratories. Patients have
the option to be seen at multiple locations across Alabama that include The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital,
Montgomery, and Huntsville.
