COVID and Kids- Reflections
in Children’s Ministry
microphones pick-up EVERYTHING. But one thing is
constant. We are there to worship and to ensure our Church
Family can also worship from the safety of their homes.
In Ecclesiastes 3 King Solomon says there is a time and
season for everything. At this moment in time, the second
part of verse 5 is especially relevant. The second part of the
verse explains there is, “a time to embrace, and a time to
refrain from embracing.” In this season of Social Distancing,
I find comfort in knowing that Scripture acknowledges times
like these.
My challenges are not unlike those facing many during
this season of COVID-19. The technological hurdles
of maintaining a remote Children’s Ministry have been
increasingly stressful, ridiculously fun, and genuinely
rewarding. However, the inability to see the kids I have
poured my heart and God’s Word into every week for two
years often feels impossible. Sunday mornings feel peculiar
with the playground empty, the halls quiet, and Peace Trailer
(our CM Headquarters) actually being peaceful. But there is
one familiar thing. God is being worshipped.
I am grateful in this time that God is still moving the hearts
of His people. The amount of Christian charity I have seen
is truly heart-warming. FKBC Members are making masks,
grocery shopping for those with at-risk immune systems,
and praying without ceasing. It is amazing to me that in
times of crisis we can especially see the Body of Christ do
what it was designed to do: SHINE the light of Christ in this
world, SHOW the love of Christ in this world, SACRIFICE
ourselves for the sake of Christ glorified!!
I encourage families to take full advantage of this time
to embrace those closest while isolating from others. I
encourage those living alone to take this time to embrace
God whole-heartedly as you distance from others socially. I
encourage those who are struggling through this time to dive
into the Bible. Even five minutes of Scripture reading a day
can make a difference. I encourage you all in the same way
Joshua encouraged the Israelites as they prepared to move
from a Season of Trial into a Season of Promise. “Have I
not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not
be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your
God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9). This season
shall pass so be strong and courageous! For if Christ is with
us, who can be against us?

Our sanctuaries these days more resemble TV Studios than
Churches. Our on-site congregation is made-up of a handful
of staff, deacons, and volunteers. During service, most of us
are making sure the camera angles are right, the lighting is
good, and the live stream is clear. During worship, we are
checking sound levels, making sure lyrics are big enough,
and trying to communicate really really quietly because the
