20 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER September 2020 Boys & Girls ■ From Page 19 thanks to all but singled out here are a few who extended their reach beyond all: Lynn Theis, Joan Vedder, Jean Tyseling, Terri Royse, Margie Wiesenthal, Vicki Wright, Diann Harland, Jan Bliss, Kathy Gibbons, Steph Pump, Gail Mikkelson, Kathy Fuller and Farol Kahle. A smaller team of Sandee Brown and Vicki Wright, Margie Wiesenthal and Diann Harland with Elaine wrapped and catalogued over 130 items and were primed for action and ready to rock the Dinner and Auction. But COVID-19 turned all our joyous plans to dust. The Crab & Rib Dinner and silent auction was canceled. Dejected, the team collected everything to be stored in Elaine Swyt’s guestroom until June. However, The Cypress Board refused to give up. They huddled and came up with a plan B: The Salmon & Rib Dinner and auction in July. However, they were thrown a curveball and had to reformat the event to only a virtual auction. Elaine then unwrapped, photographed over 70 items and sent the information to Megan Bos (our Liaison to Boys & Girls HQ) who then organized and uploaded the items for the virtual auction. Megan and Elaine spent hours sweating over hot computers, which is service above and beyond. So all the beautiful gift baskets that had been stored for months, had to be unwrapped and reconfigured to be presented online. Sprinting into action, Vicki Wright lovingly rewrapped all the items and held them until the auction was finished. The teams gathered to deliver the prizes to winners and this is where the co-chairs all and their skills in organization took the field. Due to their planning, the delivery of prizes went smoothly and safely for members and winners kudos! Take a victory lap! Not to be overlooked in the scrum, Elaine Swyt is to be commended for her ongoing efforts to get the Cypress members used to Zoom meetings and Webinar “Luncheons.” Her efforts are similar to herding cats: getting us all COURTESY PHOTO Vicki Wright and Sandee Brown surrounded by the completed Easter baskets in spring 2020. on board with the computer, not an easy task. Brava! Megan reported that our efforts for Boys & Girls Aid, resulted in $53,254. Megan commended the Cypress team on their very successful fundraiser. TOUCHDOWN! During these efforts, word came that Danny at SpringRidge was retiring from hosting our luncheons. Jan Bliss, Cherie Sanville and Diann Harland presented him with a generous gift, honoring him for the years of service. He hopes that SpringRidge and the Cypress Branch can continue working together for such a good cause. In my heart, I can only repeat what Danny said to all the hard working ladies of the Cypress Auxiliary of Boys & Girls Aid. “Mahalo.” To learn more about the Cypress Branch of Boys & Girls Aid here in Charbonneau, please go to: www.cypressonline.org.
