4 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER September 2020 Communications Chair By STEVE SWITZER The CCC Board purchased the boat house at the marina Summer update For the first time in our history, and due to the state imposed CO- VID-19 restrictions, we held our SWITZER annual meeting via webinar. The annual meeting also resulted in a record number of proxies turned in. Over 800 members cast their vote for the three candidates via proxy. The board has been conducting its meetings on the Zoom platform since April. Our General Manager, Jim Meierotto, has become quite the expert administrator of the platform. CCC members are invited to our monthly board meetings via an email that the office sends out a few days prior to the meeting. Signing in is very easy. Although most of us never heard of Zoom prior to the pandemic, now it is in common use throughout. Many of our committee meetings are held via Zoom. In addition, the Golf Club membership meeting in June and the Village Center Task Force presentation in August have used Zoom for the webinars. Paddle boarding and kayaking With the increased interest in water sports voiced by many of our residents, the board has purchased the boat house that has sat at the end of our marina for many years. The space was leased and housed a very large boat. The owner recently decided to sell the unit and we were able to secure it for well under its market value. The Asset Management Committee will prepare a feasibility study to convert it to a paddle board/kayak storage facility. Their vision is a paddle sport club not unlike the other activities in Charbonneau. Included is the possibility of converting one of the RV Storage Lot spaces for the same purpose so the boards and kayaks can be securely stored in the off season. The money was budgeted for this long ago, as well as funds set aside for the overhaul of the marina. Currently, boat slip rentals bring in more revenue than costs, something that the board is working toward for all of our assets and activities. Planning Charbonneau’s future If you have any ideas about how Charbonneau should look in 10 or 20 years, give consideration to applying for appointment to the long-term planning committee. This committee, chaired by Director Jim Gibbons, will look at all aspects of our community’s future; the assets we own, the possible opportunities for new ventures and what will be best for all our residents. Candidates will be selected by the end of October and the committee will convene as soon as COVID-19 restrictions permit. Contact Kim Hosford in the office to let you know you are interested. Work on French Prairie As most of you know, storm drain and water/sewer work continue on French Prairie from Village Greens Circle to Country View Lane. The contractor, K & E Excavation, expects the work to continue until at least December. Please use caution since the work involves the closing of lanes as well as the sidewalk/pathway.
