Marikate and her husband, Terry, moved to Charbonneau about four years ago from Pueblo, Colorado. It didn’t take them long to become Charbonneau boosters with Marikate becoming active in the Niners and Terry in the Men’s Club. Marikate was the Niners’ co-vice president in 2018 and co-president in 2019. She brought a lively personality, lots of energy and a can-do attitude to these positions and was always willing to participate in many functions including our skits and dance teams. With the Northwest winters taking their toll, Marikate and Terry decided to move to Arizona for winters. But good news... they will be back each summer and will be a part of Charbonneau one again. We cannot wait and look forward to joining us once again for golf in June! Keep playing golf. We love seeing you out there! Charbonneau Men’s Club By JOHN MCLAIN AND DON MASON Board supports expansion of “mixers” for Men’s Club play days Teamwork In a recent past year, the Men’s Club Board was expanded from nine directors to a total of 12 directors. These direc- MCLAIN tors form a great team to accomplish all the work it takes for a great golf and social season of events. One example was the added leadership (i.e. Bill Moir) and a team of volunteers that learned to utilize Golf Genius software to organize games, print scorecards and enter scores to determine winners and payouts, often publishing results on the same day. One big advantage of expanding the team of directors is that the work load of board responsibilities can be spread out over more people and avoid getting “burned out.” In summary, the 12 board directors and groups of volunteers form a great team who are consistently looking for ways to improve the golf and social experience of Men’s Club membership. Board meeting notes The board supports the expansion of “mixers” for regular Men’s Club play days to help members meet new people more easily. We have more than 230 members and many are interested in getting to know as many as possible but find it difficult to do it on their own. So, we will schedule mixers so that any member can sign up for play, and the Golf Genius software will arrange (mix) the foursomes based on handicaps, randomly or other criteria. In order to improve communications out to our members, the board decided at its July meeting that a weekly email would go out to all members each Saturday listing activities for the following week and any other major event activity coming up in the next couple of weeks. The 18-hole schedule and results page on the website has been reformatted so that the current week’s activities and the prior results will be split with separate links and will be located at the top of the listing eliminating the need to scroll through several months of prior activities and results. Hole-in-one prize pool standings This competition was suspended for a few months but is once again open to all paid members of the club. Completing a hole-in-one at Charbonneau this season, so far, are Bruce Stone, Al Landis, and Tom Nielsen. Twenty-seven-hole Match Play results The following are the winners from the Men’s Club 27-hole Match Play tournament held July 25 where the format is three 9-hole matches: ■ 1st flight: Champion: Jeff Cummings; Runner Up: Ford Morishita; Consolation 1: Bruce Stone; Consolation 2: Barry Corno ■ 2nd flight: Champion: Lee Zinsli; Runner Up: Jon Nyguyen; Consolation 1: Terry Klingerman; Consolation 2: Don Mason ■ 3rd flight: Champion: Bill Stout; Runner Up: Mark Willet; Consolation 1: Andy Schindler; Consolation 2: Ken Waldron ■ 4th flight: Champion: Al Landis; Runner Up: Bob Weise; Consolation 1: Chuck Robertson; Consolation 2: Bill Moir ■ 5th flight: Champion: John Demartino; Runner Up: David Mendenhall; Consolation 1: John Lagood; Consolation 2: Kelly Cotter Handicap reporting for Match Play While Match Play involves many situations where a player does not hole out due to conceded putts and conceded holes, players are still required to post their “most likely score” for handicap purposes. If the match ends with holes to play and the players continue to play, the actual scores must be posted for every hole played. If the match ends with holes left to play and the players do not play the remaining holes, net par should be recorded as the hole scores for the remaining holes.
