GONE FISHING
“Fishing is much more than fish. It is the
great occasion when we may return to
the fine simplicity of our forefathers.”
- Herbert Hoover
EXEMPTIONS
The waters of East Tennessee offer some of the
finest fishing in the country. Avid fishermen and
the occasional angler will find outstanding fishing
opportunities in Great Smoky Mountains National
Park, as well as the Little Pigeon River and at
Douglas Lake, located just a few miles northeast
of Pigeon Forge.
A valid Tennessee Fishing
License is required, wherever
you choose to drop your
line, if you attempt to take
fish (including crayfish) by
any method or if you assist
anyone else to do so.
• You are under 13 years of age (resident or non-
resident) in Tennessee or North Carolina
• You are on military leave, carrying a copy of
your leave orders; a pass does not meet this
requirement
• You are a resident of Tennessee born before
March 1, 1962; to qualify for this exemption you
must carry proof of age and residency to show a
park ranger or TWRA officer, if requested.
