NEURO-ONCOLOGY For more than 30 years, UAB Neuro-Oncology has provided compassionate and comprehensive care for patients with neurologic cancers. As a regional referral center for the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors and other nervous system cancers, UAB offers patients access to groundbreaking, innovative surgical techniques; new chemotherapies, biologic, and radiation therapies; and exploratory clinical trials with the most up-to-date treatment strategies. UAB patients receive high-quality, coordinated care provided by national and international leaders. Our multidisciplinary team is composed of neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, radiation oncologists, neuro-radiologists, advanced practice providers, patient care coordinators, rehabilitation specialists, neuro- pathologists, neuro-ophthalmologists, and other professionals. The full UAB team of physicians and specialists provides treatment options that are available only at academic, tertiary care cancer centers. HIGHLIGHTS • UAB Neuro-Oncology is recognized as one of the leading neuro-oncology programs in the nation, providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary evaluations. • Because our program is part of the state’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, our patients have access to the most cutting-edge cancer treatments and clinical trials available. • We are a leading member of the Adult Brain Tumor Consortium (ABTC). Its mission is to develop more effective treatments for malignant brain tumors. As part of this consortium, UAB is able to introduce our patients to new forms of chemotherapy, gene therapy, biologic therapy, and novel imaging techniques. • We conduct weekly brain tumor case conferences to review clinical, neuroradiological, and pathological data and make consensus recommendations for treatment planning. • Our program offers a broad portfolio of clinical trials sponsored by UAB investigators, the National Cancer Institute, and private industry. • Our clinical care is coordinated with neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, and radiation oncology to maximize the patient experience.
