Propelled by the accomplishments of the past, the UAB Department of Neurosurgery is determined to push
forward and create a brighter future for patients with neurological disease. Centered on clinical excellence,
research advancement, and academic distinction, our tripartite mission guides our future aspirations.
CLINICAL EXCELLENCE
The department will continue to grow and expand its footprint throughout the state and the southeast. With the
recruitment of additional faculty, improved access, and streamlined services, more patients will benefit from the
expert neurological care provided at UAB Medicine.
RESEARCH ADVANCEMENT
In the short time we’ve been an independent department, our team has demonstrated that it has the fortitude to
be a research powerhouse. Further recruitment of research faculty will chart a trajectory to keep us among the top
10 institutions for National Institutes of Health funding making cutting-edge and innovative discoveries that will
move research forward.
ACADEMIC DISTINCTION
With the groundwork of strong training programs established, the department will continue to train the next
generation of leading neurosurgeons and expand its global neurosurgery offerings. We are committed to
providing the best experience and learning environment for all trainees, so the department will deliberately and
continually seek opportunities to further ingrain diversity and inclusion into the culture of the program.
