This one-year fellowship is accredited by the Society of Neurological Surgeons’ Committee on Accreditation of Subspecialty Training (CAST). As one of only nine multidisciplinary Centers for Movement Disorders according to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, UAB offers a unique training experience supported by both neurosurgery and neurology faculty. Under the direction of Barton L. Guthrie, MD, trainees participate in adult and pediatric deep brain stimulation (DBS) services, the radiosurgery service, and a neurosurgery instructorship. Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship Offered at UAB and Children’s of Alabama, this one-year fellowship is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowships. As such, graduating fellows are fully qualified to sit for the American Board of Pediatric Neurosurgery Exam that enables them to attain ABPNS Board Certification in Pediatric Neurosurgery. Under the direction of Jeffrey Blount, MD, our residents are well-trained and are among the most distinguished graduating residents in neurosurgery training programs in North America. We are proud that all of our fellows have successfully completed ABPNS certification, and the vast majority have continued to pursue pediatric neurosurgery and leadership positions in the field. Trainees are fundamentally involved in the day-to- day operations of the busy clinical service. Extensive clinical exposure is attained in the operating room, clinics, inpatient wards, and conferences. Each fellow has an extensive operative experience in the full range of pediatric neurosurgery cases and in the important perioperative decision-making process. Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery Fellowship Endovascular Neurosurgery Fellowship Under the direction of Mark R. Harrigan, MD, this one-year fellowship provides a renowned training experience. Fellows are involved in all aspects of endovascular neurosurgery, including diagnostic angiograms, coiling/ embolization, and stenting procedures.
