ince your wedding pic-
tures will capture one
of the most important
events of your life, it’s
easy to see why a great photographer
is one of the most important decisions
to make when planning your wedding.
Make sure there are no regrets and
select a local Island photographer. To take advantage of the Island scen-
ery, being in good physical condition
and moving quickly between loca-
tions is really important. Island pho-
tographers are familiar with the local
ceremony and reception venues, the
terrain and are prepared for the vari-
ety of ever changing weather condi-
tions.
Because the Island has such beau-
tiful landscapes not found on the
mainland, you can expect wonderful
photos. But the Island can also cre-
ate unique challenges for a friend or
relative you ask to take your wedding
photos. Just because you like pictures
you’ve seen on a friend's Instagram
doesn't mean they are going to take
good photos at your wedding. Even
professional photographers you bring
from home are going to be chal-
lenged shooting on Mackinac Island. The photographers listed in this Wed-
ding Guide are very professional and
have plenty of experienced working
on the Island. All the photographers

portation and can operate with just
the right amount of equipment to
photograph your wedding day.

your vision.
For weddings on weekends, most
Island photographers should be
booked 6-12 months in advance. For
smaller gatherings, weddings during
the week, or those not requiring cov-
erage the entire day, Island photog-
raphers can be booked with much
less lead time. However, securing your
photographer ahead of time elimi-
nates the stress and extra effort locat-
ing a photographer if your first choice
is already booked.
After securing your photographer, it’s
time to start communicating. Send
an email or text with a few inspira-
tional images you've seen from their
portfolio that you love. Make sure you
email or chat with them on the phone
to get to know them on a personal
and professional level.
