2020 Highlights

Virtually Kiawah, Naturally Beautiful
In 2020, we faced new challenges and uncertainties and found that we were more than ready for the task at hand!
If it had not been for COVID, this year would have been our seventh annual Earth Day Celebration at the Naturally Kiawah Demonstration Garden in Night Heron Park. It would have been our second year of offering Conservancy Kids & Families programs focused on wildlife and habitats. It would have been another year of our monthly Conservation Matters education programs. Unfortunately, much of these activities were not possible during quarantine.
As events were cancelled, offices closed, and travel stopped, we worked hard to find a way to bring the natural beauty and splendor of Kiawah to our supporters through virtual learning opportunities.
What we immediately realized was that our Naturally Kiawah Pathways Tours served as the perfect platform for getting to know Kiawah. This set of eight self-guided tours provided opportunities for those on Kiawah to get out and explore at their own pace with GPS activated commentary and images. For those in other locations, it provided an opportunity to log in and take a tour virtually. The Naturally Kiawah Pathways Tours on the TravelStorys App offered a unique combination of interesting information and beautiful imagery to ease the quarantine blues.
The Conservancy’ s Land Preservation Coordinator, Lee Bundrick, and Communications and Education Coordinator, Jennifer Woody, created a new podcast-style program featuring conservation topics key to the Conservancy’ s mission: think shorebirds, sea turtles, coastal resilience,
