July 2020 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 3
CCC President’s
Column
By KATHY HARP
Happy endings, new
beginnings
As I write my
final president’s
column, I am reflecting
on the
journey I have
taken these past
six years as a director
serving
HARP
on the Charbonneau
Country Club Board. This is
a bittersweet time for me given
both the challenges and the amazing
accomplishments we have had
recently.
I was elected in 2014, one of three
open positions, only three applicants
were on the ballot. Each year
three positions are open, once again
this year three names were on the
ballot. In my first year on the CCC
Board, I became the new communications
chair and soon discovered
that I would be working very closely
with Cindy Garrison, editor of the
Villager. Cindy and I enjoyed working
together for several years and it
did not take me long to realize what
a gift she was to this community.
Next, I joined the Architectural Control
Committee as co-chair for a
year and then eventually chair for
several years. During this time I also
served as treasurer for one year.
Then, I was reelected to the CCC
Board for a second three-year term.
I continued as architectural chair
and in 2016, was asked to serve as
vice president. I always said I was
happy to support Tony Holt as our
president, but I had no desire to ever
be president. Never say never.
Here are some highlights and accomplishments
of our CCC Board
during my time as a director:
 Our previous General Manager,
Susie Stevens, retired after over 25
years of service to our community. I
was asked to chair the search committee
for our new general manager.
From the moment we read Jim Meierotto’s
resume and subsequently
interviewed him, we knew he would
be a perfect match for our community.
The CCC Board vote was unanimous
to hire Jim. He has proven to
all of us that he is an amazing gift to
our community these past years and
he has a great vision for our future.
We also hired a new staff member,
Karen Pratt, who also has been such
a welcome and vital addition to our
community.
 We contracted with Pamplin
Media Group to become the new
publishers of the Villager. They
have done a wonderful job of continuing
to bring our Charbonneau
news to our mailboxes each month.
 We purchased the old Annex
building in 2018.
 CCC Board continued its community
outreach in many forms,
seeking input into the needs of our
community.
 A newly formed CCC/Charbonneau
Golf Club committee began
looking into combining our two entities
in spring of 2018.
CCC and CGC reached an historic
agreement on the use of the
Garden Terrace and CGC began major
renovations on it with the goal of
adding new revenues to our golf
course and ultimately our community.
 The Village Center Development
Task Force was formed and
currently is preparing to present
schematics for our new Activity
Center in the weeks ahead.
I was elected president in early
2019. During my first nine months as
president, four board members resigned
for a variety of reasons —
that was a difficult time.
For the first time in Charbonneau
history, a group of residents
signed a petition requiring the CCC
Board to call a special meeting of
the community to address their demands.
The vote taken at that meeting
showed an overwhelming support
of the CCC Board and their efforts
with the Golf Club and the new
Activities Center. Eighty-nine percent
of our community either voted
