AURORA AIRPORT
CONFERENCE CANCELED
By COREY BUCHANAN
PAMPLIN MEDIA GROUP
The annual Oregon Aviation Conference
and Open House slated to be held at the Aurora
Airport Aug. 1 has been canceled as a
result of the COVID-19 pandemic, according
to a press release from the two organizers:
Positive Aurora Airport Management and
the Oregon Pilots’ Association.
The event would have provided nearby residents
with information about the services airport
companies provide and job opportunities, and included
product displays, discussions and demonstrations.
Organizers anticipate putting on the
event in 2021.
“It’s two sided. For one, it’s a business loss. The
(flight) schools like to promote, get more clients,
(get) people in that can end up being career pilots
for the airlines or mechanics. More importantly,
the reason for an open house is the opportunity to

invite neighbors in and see what goes on,” said
Bruce Bennett, president of Aurora Aviation. “People
hear the sound of an aircraft and don’t realize
why, what it’s doing. When they see it’s a training
flight to go fight fires, they understand the importance
and need for what happens here. It was an
opportunity to do that and now we’re off a year.”
According to the release, the airport has 1,200
employees working at various businesses such as
Vans Aircraft, Columbia Helicopters and Helicopter
Transport Services.
“Both groups realize the significance of the Aurora
Airport and General Aviation to the economic
recovery and assure the public that flight operations
are continuing safely and effectively through
the careful implementation of recommended measures
as called out by the Oregon Health Authority
and Center for Disease Control,” the press release
reads.
