2020 Charbonneau
Festival of the Arts will
launch online Oct. 1
For 2020
the Charbonneau
Festival
of the Arts is
moving online,
morphing from a
live event to an
HOEM
engaging internet
experience.
How did we get there from the annual
Country Club weekend show
that we know and love?
When we heard that Gov. Brown’s
office would not be deciding until
September whether festivals could
be offered this year, we made the decision
to take our event and fundraising
to the internet. Fortunately,
we had expertise available that
could lead the way: Elaine Swyt, the
administrator of our website and
board vice president.
About the change of course,
Elaine commented, “We grabbed the
moment and moved our festival in
the direction that only a few of us
know how to make happen. We
chose to go virtual when we had the
choice of cancelling or reimagining
anew.”
Although this is unknown territory
for the rest of us, we thought that
it would be an interesting challenge.
Rick Cady, chair of the Festival Organizing
Committee, called this effort
“an exciting new opportunity to
showcase artists in a number of mediums.”
And that is certainly what
we are focusing on.
Although we understand the challenge
this year, we are still planning
the fundraising portion of our festival,
which is the core of our mission.
A virtual silent auction will be held
for two weeks beginning in mid-October
and will be open to all who

sign up to bid. Watch for details on
our website and in our event publicity
on how you can participate in the
fun and help us raise funds to support
the art education program at
Canby and Wilsonville High Schools.
In a virtual Student Gallery, we
look forward to displaying many
amazing creations from these students,
including video shows and
projects, where you will see the impact
of our donations over the years.
Our virtual Artist Gallery will include
artists across all media categories.
Each artist will be featured
with their own portfolio page, sharing
their bio, up to 12 pieces of their
work and contact links to inquire or
purchase directly from the artists.
We are also excited to offer gallery
artists the option to present their
hanging art in a 3-D virtual gallery.
All this provides artists greater
opportunity to show their work than
is usually possible in our Country
Club venue. One tradition that will
continue: the People’s Choice
Awards. Check our website to be involved
in the voting.
Always a popular feature of our
Charbonneau Festival of the Arts is
the weekend artisan fair that brings
dozens of vendor booths to the
Country Club: everything from jewelry,
to fine soaps, to wood crafts
and more. Our virtual Artist Gallery
will include these artists as well,
along with links to their website, ET-
SY store or other form of contact.
Having an online event has created
an opportunity to include a broader
range of music in the festival. We
are happy to announce we are
