T
o have or not to have… an engagement session with
your photographer has so many more benefits than to
simply have your photo taken. Many couples will use these
images for Save-the-Date announcements, to be displayed
at the wedding or to be used for your wedding website.
Wedding professionals will absolutely recommend these sessions
to couples as aside from the uses above, it’s a way to get to
know your photographer. It’s not often thought of a great
way to get to know your other vendors, but we think so! And
here’s why:
You’re having your picture taken, how are you going to look?
This is a great opportunity to meet your hair and makeup stylist.
During our engagement session with this lovely couple, we
asked Leah of Makeup by Lee and Courtney of Urban Hair Spa
to share with us how they can heighten your engagement
session experience. They both say that engagement sessions

are not your trial for your wedding day, but instead a great
way for them to get to know you, your skin, the texture of
your hair and your personality so to better provide a wedding
trial that suits you perfectly! The engagement session should
provide a very natural style but also allow you to try some-
thing different than what your wedding day look will be.
How about your florist? Although the floral design prepared
may not be exactly what you will have on your wedding
day due to seasonality, Ashley Elaine Florals says having her
create something for your engagement session can add a little
something to a regular backdrop, it provides you something to
hold and interact with; even to wear as floral jewelry or have
a greenery garland wrap around you! The setting should also
be considered and having your designer there to help set the
stage will create some fabulously romantic shots.
